Following the launch of the draft Code in February 2008, NZUAG sought submissions on the content of the Code. A total of 39 submissions were received, ranging from a one page statement of support for the content of the Code to substantial lists of suggestions for change, including the rationale for the suggestions.
The development of a Code that is legally enforceable and consistent across the country was universally supported. Submitters endorsed the principles of cooperation and collaboration, and offered suggestions on how to enhance this. Concerns on the legal status of the Code were passed to the Ministry of Economic Development, who assure the sector that the legislation will provide for Ministers jointly to approve and enforce the use of a stakeholder-developed code of practice.
